Human Vapor: Netflix Reveals Release Date and Trailer for New Japanese Sci-Fi Series

Netflix has revealed the release date for Human Vapor, its new Japanese series produced in partnership with Toho. The production, which adapts the classic 1960 science fiction film, is set to arrive on the streaming platform on July 2.

Along with the release date, Netflix also released the first trailer for the new series. For me, one of the most interesting details is that Human Vapor marks the first television collaboration between Netflix and Toho, the legendary Japanese studio best known internationally for franchises such as Godzilla.

What Is Human Vapor About?

In the story, Japan is thrown into shock after a person suddenly explodes live during a TV program. The man responsible is someone capable of transforming into vapor, becoming known as the Human Vapor.

After announcing a series of murders, he begins attacking without leaving any trace behind. By using his ability to move freely without being identified, the Human Vapor spreads fear, mystery, and curiosity across the country.

The premise gives the series a strong mix of science fiction, suspense, and psychological tension. It also updates a classic Japanese sci-fi concept for a modern streaming audience.

Cast and Production Team

The cast of Human Vapor includes Shun Oguri, Yu Aoi, Suzu Hirose, Kento Hayashi, and Yutaka Takenouchi.

The series is directed by Shinzo Katayama. Another major name involved in the project is Yeon Sang-ho, the creator of Train to Busan and Netflix’s Parasyte: The Grey, who serves as executive producer and co-writer.

That creative combination makes the series even more intriguing to me. On one side, there is Toho’s long history with Japanese science fiction. On the other, there is Netflix’s global reach and Yeon Sang-ho’s experience with horror, survival stories, and high-concept genre storytelling.

Human Vapor Release Date on Netflix

Human Vapor premieres on July 2 on Netflix.

With its strange premise, classic sci-fi roots, and strong creative team, the series could become one of Netflix’s most unusual Japanese releases of the year.
